World Menopause Day 18th October: Let’s Embrace Menopause

Can menopause be a positive experience?

When you’re dealing with hot flushes, sleepless nights and irritability; you might think not. But to mark annual World Menopause Day (18th October), we wanted to look at a different side of menopause and ask whether menopause can spark positive changes in a woman’s life.

We talked to menopause experts and women who are going through menopause about how we can reframe and embrace menopause.

Here are some of the things they told us:

Menopause is a Time to Prioritise Your Own Health

Many women are so used to caring for others that they forget to look after themselves. This means little health niggles often go ignored. But the onset of menopause provides a good opportunity to assess overall health.

One advantage of advancing into your 40s and 50s is that you may have more time to invest in activities to help you look and feel your best. This might include fitting in a regular yoga class, or simply having more time to plan and enjoy cooking healthy meals.

Hot Flush Club

Debbie, Lyn and Alfreda from Hot Flush Club told us how important nutritional care and exercise is to health before and during menopause:

“We have found the best advice is that the sooner women start to care for their skin and body then the journey into menopause becomes a lot easier. Nutritional care is very important by adding supplements and vitamins to your daily routine. Exercise like walking and yoga are also great for wellbeing.”

Menopause Gives You a New Found Confidence

Many women find menopause gives them a new-found resilience and increased confidence. With years of life experience under your belt, you’re more likely to go after what you want - confident that you can handle whatever comes your way.

Henpicked

Fiona from Henpicked told us why menopause is her superpower:

“For me, my menopause has genuinely become a superpower. As I travelled through the experience of the physical and mental pick’n’mix symptoms of menopause, I developed a different kind of resilience. I finally learnt the art of mindfulness, which has evaded me before now.

“Then there’s the reflective moments that hit you, sometimes with sadness, but they gradually evolve into a new upbeat mindset and outlook on life that has allowed me to be more productive and optimistic about nearly everything that passes through my own little world.

“Each day I drink from a special mug a dear friend gave me. And now, thanks to menopause it means more each day. It reads ‘Believe in your #selfie’ - and I do."

You Focus on You

As the Hot Flush Club team says:

“Now is the time to take time for yourself and cherish every part of the day. Enjoy this journey, have fun and share it with those around you.”

With changing attitudes towards ageing, many women find menopause is the perfect time to celebrate a new lease of life. As you advance into your 40s and 50s, when it comes to your appearance, you’ll have developed your own sense of style and know how to dress to look your best. Now is also a great time to introduce a new skincare regime designed especially for menopausal skin.

Your skin changes a lot during menopause but the good news is that Emepelle helps target the root cause of ageing caused by menopause, helping you look and feel your best as you embrace menopause.
